The Making of Shampoo Bars

While everyone else heads to work on a Monday morning, I get to make something amazing for my family. Also, I get to pretend that staying home on Monday morning is luxurious and not just part of my two days off.

Here you have my adventures in shampoo making. A pure coconut oil shampoo bar, superfatted to keep the moisture, this bar is simple and hardworking and great for sensitive skin.

Coconut oil is possibly my favourite oil because of it’s multi-uses. It’s so amazing to cook with and skin and hair love it! This soap is made from 100% coconut oil for lots of lather. It’s also super-fatted to 12% to keep it from over-drying your skin while it cleans.

The silicone molds hang to dry. They make removing the soap from the molds super-simple! Measuring lye takes some knowledge and a little safety. We use our outside table for this one.

The coconut oil is almost melted (first photo above). Once the oil is melted and the water/lye mixture has cooled to be a similar temperature, we add the lye mixture to the oil and blend with an immersion blender. Once it reaches trace (as pictured in the last photo above) we put the lid on and let it cook for about an hour.

The molds are dry and waiting for the soap to be ready! The second photo above is what it looks like under the glass lid. The oils slowly bubble around the outsides and fold back into the middle. It’s hard to wait patiently when you’re making something so amazing. The last photo above has a bar of our last batch sitting and waiting more patiently than I.

The pot is empty and the molds are gone. It bubbles when I run the water to clean up! That’s always a good sign! The last photo is some of my gear after all the fun.

Here they are in the molds. After 24 hours, we can pop them out!
Simply Coconut Shampoo Bars out of their molds and ready for a short cure.
The finished product. An amazing clean with a simple ingredient. No chemicals, no animal products or testing, no essential oils.

Creating in the Kitchen!

We have so much fun mixing and creating new products! Testing is always interesting. We try and re-try different recipes to discover what works and what doesn’t.

Do you know what we made?
